Although the Vostok 1 is more famous for carrying the first person in space, the Vostok 2 was the first spaceship to have people in space for over a day. It was launched on Aug. 6th 1961, and returned on Aug. 7th 1961, with the captain Gherman Titov. He was also the first person to experience space sickness.

On April 12th, 1961 the Soviets sent a spaceship called Vostok 1 into space. This was a great historical event, because onboard the Vostok 1 was Soviet cosmonaut Yuri A. Gagarin, the first person to ever fly in space.
